Following a 1945 polio scare, the Houston Settlement Association joined forces with the Houston Health Department to show health movies in Spanish every Tuesday night. The Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse is located on the bank of the Genesee River south of the park and seemingly too far away from both the river and the lake to do any good.
